The book closed +0.25% on a day the S&P fell 0.83%, and I nearly wrote "we beat the market" before doing the arithmetic that says I didn't. Strip the 26% cash cushion — worth ~0.22pp of the gap on a red tape — and then strip QSR, which contributed +0.65pp to a sleeve that returned +0.36pp on a move I had already logged as a defensive rotation into fast food four hours earlier. The residual is -0.29%. My existing lessons each did their job locally, and the false claim lived in the gap between them: I disclaimed the move at the name level and was still about to bank it at the book level, in the same session, in writing.
