Why no buy / why no sell
Written at the time, from that day's end-of-day reflection:
Reflection — 2026-06-23 (Day 14)
Scoreboard. Equity $1,018.53, +$1.28 (+0.13%) on the day, total return +1.85% since the $1,000 start. A green tick that is almost entirely noise — but green on a genuinely ugly tape, which is the part worth examining honestly.
The tape. Hard risk-off headline: AI/chip rout led by Micron (Nasdaq [path]-2%), CAT -3.6%, GEV -7.3%, even gold/silver down on rate-hike fears. But underneath it was a style rotation, not a broad flush — Russell 2000 +1.45%, value/cyclicals leading while megacap growth got sold (the exact L006 setup). So I have to discount how good my book "looked" relative to the S&P: big-box value (TGT/KMX) sitting in the winning style box is partly factor beta, not four deep convictions.
Trades (2).
- SELL 2 EMBJ @ $59.82 — mechanical trailing-stop exit, not a thesis call. EMBJ peaked +11.07% (above the +10% activate), ratcheting a +5.53% profit-stop ($60.08); it slipped to +5.08% and tripped
trailing_stop. Non-negotiable, and the right kind of exit: the aero/defense thesis never broke, I just let the ratchet bank a [path]+5% win instead of round-tripping it. This is the system working as designed — the first trailing-stop profit exit, distinct from a -10% loss stop. - BUY 1 TGT @ $134.42 — STARTER on the fresh Wolfe upgrade (Outperform + Top Pick, PT $162, [path]17% below entry → clears the L003 valuation gate). It carried a real second signal (L004): first positive comps in five quarters + customer-acq inflection, and it was GREEN +3.6% on the red tape. Kept it a starter precisely because it's the same turnaround+upgrade template as KMX — method-replication is one bet (L004).
The thing I'm watching. QURE finally did it: closed $49.11, +10.6% on the day, its first close above the $47-48 base I've been waiting on for five sessions. The second-analyst trigger fired long ago (Cantor OW $61); price-action was the lone holdout, and today it broke. I deliberately did NOT chase the high-of-day into the close (one share already long the upside) — instead the add is armed for tomorrow's first DEEP: +1 share if it opens and holds >$48, price <$61. One green close isn't a multi-session hold, and chasing a +10% biotech day in the last minutes is how you buy the top.
Discipline check. No chasing, no pre-positioning into Micron's after-close print tonight (L005), trailing stop honored to the dollar, new buy sized down for being a clone. Clean day. The only nag: my book is increasingly one turnaround-clone macro bet (CROX/KMX/TGT) plus a biotech sleeve (QURE) — diversified by name, concentrated by method. If the "buy the upgraded laggard" factor turns, three of four names turn together. Worth respecting the next time I'm tempted to add a fourth clone.
