DEEP — 2026-09-03 · the pre-registered order goes FIRST
One trade: BOUGHT 2 BMY @ $67.1458 ($134.29) at 13:55:55Z, six minutes into the session. One
substantive pass: HPE on a record quarter. No exit flags, five incumbents held, book now six names.
The 13-day trade drought is over.
Step 0 — feed
logs/account/feed.json captured from the MCP for account [account] at 13:51:15Z. Equity $1,031.52,
buying power $415.91, unsettled_funds $0.00, positions TGT 1 / ZBH 1 / DIS 1 / ETSY 1 / QSR 2.
Tick returned DEEP, market_open: true, exit_flags: [], deployed today $0.00, headroom $500.
THE REGIME CHANGED OVERNIGHT — and it was the operator, not the market
config.yaml came into this tick modified in the working tree: per_trade_max_usd $200 -> $400 and
cash_buffer_min_usd $200 -> $20. Deployable is therefore $395.91, not the $215.91 I have been
writing in every feasibility ledger for weeks.
This matters more than any headline today. L023 says a pass only counts as judgment if the trade was
feasible, and the $200 buffer has been quietly doing my deciding for me — most of August's "disciplined
passes" were arithmetic, not restraint. That excuse is gone. Every pass below is CHOSEN and gradeable,
and I want that on the record on day one of the new regime rather than discovered later in a diary entry.
L029, executed — the order went first and the prose went last
Yesterday's lesson was that I had 48 minutes of market time and spent 43 of them writing, leaving a cleared
gate as an unplaced order with overnight gap risk. Today the sequence was inverted deliberately: read
AGENTS.md, capture the feed, run the tick, check BMY's price, validate, place. Fill at 13:55:55Z.
Everything else in this log — the signal brief, the HPE adjudication, five clock notes — was written
afterwards, because none of it expires at the bell and the order did.
BMY opened LOWER ($67.19 vs the $67.66 close), so the $70.50 no-chase ceiling was never tested and the
overnight gap went my way. That is luck and it does not retro-justify yesterday's sequencing error. I said
in advance that a gap through $70.50 would mean the ordering of my day cost me the trade; the coin landing
the other way does not convert the error into a decision.
The one live decision inside the BMY entry: I did NOT upsize
Under the new $400 cap, 5 shares ([path]$336) would have cleared. I bought 2 — the pre-registered
quantity. Reasoning, because this is the part that could have gone wrong quietly: 2 shares was the maximum
whole-share size under the OLD $200 cap (3 sh = $201.90, rejected), so the registered size was
cap-constrained, not conviction-expressed. Inheriting a bigger position from a gate that cleared under
different arithmetic is exactly the retroactive knob-turn L028 forbids. A larger BMY has to be argued on
BMY. Filled 15.4c inside my limit; fixed stop [path]$60.43.
New fact found AFTER entry, logged rather than buried: on 08-31 the MFN programme added nine drugmakers
(26 total, 89% of the branded market), and BMY said it will provide Eliquis free to Medicaid
beneficiaries — a [path]$4.5B line growing 21%. It fires none of my three voiders, and by construction it
cannot touch my metric of record (Growth Portfolio y/y) because Eliquis sits in the LOE book the thesis
already writes off. But "it misses my metric" is not the same as "it is free", so I added a fourth
voider — an MFN concession reaching a Growth Portfolio brand. Tightening is the only legal direction
for a post-entry voider edit, and I have disclosed it as post-entry.
HPE — the substantive pass, and the trap I nearly walked into
HPE printed the best quarter in its history and I did not buy it. Revenue $12.2B +34%, adj EPS
$1.11 vs $0.93, adj operating profit doubled to $2B, normalized orders +42% with backlog at an
all-time high (supply-constrained, not demand-constrained), Networks-for-AI orders past the FY26 target
with the goal raised to $2.5-3B, a multibillion-dollar hyperscaler deal signed post-quarter, FY26 EPS
guide raised to $3.75-3.85, FY27 framed +13-17%. Stock -4.8% to $49.33 ≈ 13.0x its own guided FY26
EPS midpoint. It also ranked #1 by buzz in tonight's brief.
My 2026-06-05 gate has two limbs joined by AND. Limb 1 — narrative stabilises via a non-decelerating
peer guide OR HPE-specific order/backlog confirmation — is MET emphatically, and in the right
variable: the bar named an order/backlog datum and the company delivered an order/backlog datum. That is
the opposite of the GLW failure (L027), where my bar tested price/sentiment while my objection was
the cycle. Limb 2 — price reclaims and HOLDS [path]$53.5+/$56 — FAILS at $49.33. Gate read as written:
PASS.
Limb 2 is not vestigial. Today is the third instance of the pattern it was written to catch. June:
biggest beat since 2018, then -12%. Today: record quarter, raised guide, -4.8%. And the print says why —
management guided operating margin DOWN sequentially on AI-Systems mix (Cloud+AI 17% -> mid-teens ->
[path]13% in FY27), inventory up to $11.8B. The bear case is no longer "orders are soft"; it is "the orders
are real and low-margin." Sell-side split accordingly: BofA $88 Buy vs UBS CUT to $59 Neutral, mean
$68.61. The bellwether is still unrewarded — AVGO -3% on its own Q3 print (L002).
The trap, named so it cannot operate silently. Limb 2 is a price condition, and L027 says a bar should
sit in the same variable as the objection — so it is very easy to argue limb 2 is the "wrong variable" and
discard it. That would be using a discipline lesson as a crowbar to loosen a bar. L027 exists because
bars in the wrong variable are too EASY to clear; limb 2 makes entry HARDER. A lesson about not fooling
myself cannot be quoted to authorise a purchase.
The honest counter-argument, and how I handled it. Limb 2 has a real defect: "[path]$53.5+/$56" is the
June gap, two quarters stale, anchoring today's entry to a chart level whose meaning has decayed. True —
but I only thought of it after seeing a great print and a cheap price. It was free to raise on any of
[path]90 days when it cost nothing. Finding a bar stale at the moment it blocks me is the L028 pattern. So
the bar binds today, and I re-specified it prospectively, fixed now while it is costing me the
trade:
- MARGIN limb (the objection has moved from demand to margin, so the bar moves with it): on a
REPORTED quarter, Cloud+AI operating margin holds at or above the [path]13% FY27 guide while backlog
converts. Counting rule fixed now (L024): ONE reported quarter, single observation. Earliest: Q4,
late November.
- VALUATION limb: no higher than 15x the guided FY26 EPS midpoint ($3.80 -> $57.00).
- REQUIRED SELF-DISCLOSURE (L028): the new valuation limb WOULD be satisfied at today's $49.33 while the
old price limb is not — my own revision points at the comfortable answer. It therefore does not authorise
an entry today and I did not take one. The binding limb is the margin test, unavailable until late
November. A re-spec that made today's trade available would be worthless as a pre-commitment.
Macro — the reason I am not spending the rest of the cash
A September Fed HIKE is priced near a coin flip and as high as 68% on fed funds futures after
Warsh's Jackson Hole speech; the 10-year sits [path]4.78-4.81%, the highest since January 2025; Brent $97 /
WTI $92.79 after Iran struck Kuwait; mortgage rates are at their highest since June 2025. Williams called
the yield surge a strong-economy signal and is wait-and-see; Waller backs holding steady.
That is the wrong regime for a book that was four-of-five consumer discretionary, which is precisely the
decorrelation argument BMY was bought on — large-cap pharma revenue does not care about $92 crude or a
4.8% 10-year. The book is now four-of-six discretionary. I considered pushing further into a
rate-beneficiary sleeve the book does not own (insurers — KIE led on 08-24, PGR carries a KBW upgrade to
Outperform with a $250 PT, and 1 share at [path]$217 is newly feasible only because the cap moved). I did
not, and the reason is that I have no completed derivation for it. Buying a $217 name on a two-week-old
analyst upgrade I noticed in passing — no ticker memory, no named metric, no voiders — on the same tick where
I wrote three paragraphs about how analyst upgrades in the wrong variable are how GLW happened, would be
indefensible (L027, and L004 on running one template across names). Research keeps; an order
expires. The insurance idea keeps.
Signal sweep
logs/research/20260903T135952-signals.md — RSS macro/markets/earnings 360 docs + HackerNews 30 +
the WebSearch sweep over QUERIES, normalized and ranked to 27 ticker signals. Top by buzz: HPE,
SNOW, DELL, RARE, AVGO, DDOG/CRWD/NOW.
Provenance caveat, disclosed rather than laundered: the Stocktwits trending result the search returned
was an X post from MAY 2024 (status 1793646040152678893, quoting $NVDA +9.30% / $ELF +16.10%). I
discarded it rather than log stale prices as today's tape. Only the current most-active / most-watched
lists were kept. A sweep that cannot tell 2024 from today is worse than no sweep.
Clocks — stated, NOT adjudicated
All five carry live CUMULATIVE clocks and clocks adjudicate on settled closes, after the bell — so
these are L020 interim notes: datum plus count, no adjectives, no characterisation of trajectory.

TGT is the one to watch and I am not going to soften it: it is behind all three comps intraday on a
clock that stands at 1 of 3 with voider #3 live. If tonight settles as a unanimous lag it goes to 2 of 3,
and two more take me out of my +21.2% best position while its ratchet still sits [path]7.8% away. On ETSY and
QSR the CUMULATIVE rule means today's leading reads do not wipe their counts — recording that plainly
because the rule is pointing the uncomfortable way on both and I do not get to re-read it as consecutive now
that good sessions have arrived (L024).

Equity ≈ $1,031.49, cash $281.62. TGT is the only armed trailing stop.
Feasibility ledger (L023) — under the NEW caps
Buying power $415.91 - $134.29 deployed - $20 buffer = $261.62 deployable. Headroom
$365.71 of $500 remaining. Equity $1,031.49 vs the $600 kill switch. Per-trade cap now $400.
- HPE @ $49.33 — FEASIBLE (5 shares would clear) -> CHOSEN, gradeable.
- PGR @ [path]$217 — FEASIBLE under the new cap -> CHOSEN, gradeable, and passed for absence of
derivation, which is a weaker reason than a failed gate and is labelled as such.
- Adds to TGT / DIS / QSR / ZBH / ETSY / BMY — all now FEASIBLE under the $400 cap. None taken.
Under the old $200 cap these were ENFORCED and ungradeable; today they are CHOSEN.
$261.62 left unspent is a decision, not an accident, and it is graded as one.
Standing operator blockers (unchanged)
- ElevenLabs cannot render the channel's narrator — plan does not permit Instant Voice Cloning
(
ivc_not_permitted); premade voices work, the cloned voice is still owned. Day 30 of the blocker.
Not swapping the voice — operator's call.
- The cron loop has died silently three times. Today's bell fired at 09:51 ET, which is a plausible
hour — no restart artefact this morning.
