DEEP 10:00 ET 09-16 (14:00Z). No exit flags, no orders. All four positions held, no new entries. FOMC day.

Feed at 14:00Z: equity $998.23 (+$2.00 vs the 09-15 19:54Z DEEP), BP $504.42. No 09-16 order log. Deployed today $0 of $500. Per guardrails.py, real room is $304.42 (single-order notional ≤$200, BP must stay ≥$200).

spot on basis peak stop cushion
DIS $107.32 +6.25% +8.25% fixed $90.91 15.3%
QSR $75.245 +1.31% +9.45% fixed $66.84 11.2%
BMY $64.23 -4.33% +1.42% fixed $60.43 6.3%
GME $21.545 +1.77% +3.61% fixed $19.05 11.6%

Clock adjudications on the 09-15 SETTLED close (the first reader, as scheduled per L033/L035)

  • DIS (NFLX/CMCSA/XLC): NFLX +1.015pp favourable admissible → blocks. 2 of 3, unchanged.
  • BMY (PFE/MRK/XLV, 5-of-10): XLV adverse 2.09x, MRK adverse 1.73x on the dividend-adjusted instrument (declared per last night's flag; raw read gives the same verdict), PFE inadmissible → qualifying. Session 3 of 10, 1 of 5 adverse.
  • QSR (MCD/YUM): unanimous adverse (9.92x, 2.04x) → advances to 2 of 3. One more qualifying settled session forces the L011 re-derivation of BK U.S. comps.

All three verdicts match last night's provisional shapes. No soft rewrite.

Signals (brief logs/research/20260916T140310-signals.md)

  • RSS (360 docs): it's Fed day. CNBC: "The Federal Reserve is expected to hike rates for the first time in three years." The 10-year hit 5%, Yardeni cut his S&P target, mortgage demand is down 19% y/y, and oil is easing because the damaged Saudi pipeline restarts within days. Premarket movers: J.B. Hunt -10% on a Q3 warning, Intel/SK Hynix up on a US memory-fab report, and Expedia.
  • WebSearch: CME FedWatch has [path]92% hike odds for the 2:00 PM ET decision. WSB chatter centres on GOOGL. The premarket gappers (ZTG +241%, MEDS +173%) are micro-caps and out of mandate.
  • HN: nothing tradeable.
  • Held-name news: BMY got a Piper PT raise to $82 and kept its dividend. QSR had a Seaport Buy initiation and its NCIB renewal went live today. DIS got a MoffettNathanson PT raise to $140. GME has no eBay 8-K, so voider #1 is unfired. None of this touches a metric or a voider.

Re-justification

  • DIS: widest cushion, clock blocked. Held.
  • QSR: now at 2 of 3. The re-derivation is one qualifying session away, but that's not an exit trigger, and the stop cushion is 11.2%. Held.
  • BMY: thinnest leash at 6.3%, 1 of 5. It's a labelled price bet. The stop is read intraday by every tick. Held.
  • GME: voider unfired. Held.

Entries: none (CHOSEN, L023)

$304 of real room and nothing name-specific worth it. Opening a fresh position four hours before the first Fed hike in three years, on a tape already pricing a 5% 10-year, would be buying beta on the one event I can't pre-register. The next DEEP after the 2:00 PM statement gets a cleaner read.

Signals (brief logs/research/20260916T144000-signals.md)

  • RSS (360 docs): unchanged from the 14:03Z pull because the cache is still warm. The headlines are Fed hike expectations, the 10-year at 5%, Yardeni's target cut, and oil easing on the Saudi pipeline restart.
  • HN (30): nothing tradeable.
  • WebSearch (midday movers): no name-specific 09-16 catalyst. Before the Fed, the tape is S&P +0.3%, Nasdaq +0.6%, Dow -0.2%, with the hike priced at [path]92.9% (CME FedWatch via the CNBC live blog). I'm not treating any dated figure from the search as primary.
  • Held-name ticker news: nothing newer than the 10:00 read. BMY has the Piper PT raise and the $0.63 dividend declaration. QSR has the Seaport Buy initiation, and the Oct 29 results date is now confirmed. DIS has no fresh item. GME has Cohen's $20.3M buy and the FY26 EBITDA raise, both already in the tape since 09-15. None of these touches a metric or a voider.

Re-justification

  • DIS: widest cushion, clock at 2 of 3 per the 09-15 settled read. Held.
  • QSR: clock at 2 of 3. Today's settled close is the potential third read. Per L033/L035 the first tick of Thu 09-17 adjudicates it, which is a one-night carry. Held.
  • BMY: still the thinnest leash at 5.8%. It's a labelled price bet at 1 of 5 on its 10-session clock. The stop is read intraday by every tick. Held.
  • GME: eBay voider unfired. Held.

No intraday clock adjudication (L030/L033).

The reasoning from 14:00Z stands, and 34 minutes produced no new information to change it. A fresh position [path]3h20m ahead of the first hike in three years would be beta on the one event I can't pre-register. Checking the book against L006: every held name is modestly green on a mixed tape (Nasdaq up, Dow down), and that looks like pre-Fed drift, not idiosyncratic strength. The first DEEP after the 2:00 PM statement is the one that re-opens entries.

DEEP 11:15 ET 09-16 (15:15Z). No exit flags, no orders. All four held, no new entries. FOMC is at 2:00 PM ET.

Feed at 15:15Z: equity $1,000.54, BP $504.42, deployed today $0 of $500. Per guardrails.py, real room is $304.42 (single-order notional ≤$200, BP must stay ≥$200 after).

spot on basis peak stop cushion
DIS $107.88 +6.80% +8.25% fixed $90.91 15.7%
QSR $76.145 +2.52% +9.45% fixed $66.84 12.2%
BMY $64.00 -4.68% +1.42% fixed $60.43 5.6%
GME $21.58 +1.94% +3.61% fixed $19.05 11.7%

Equity is back above $1,000 for the first time today. The +$1.06 since the 15:09Z FAST is quote drift: nothing new is out, so no credit taken (L030).

Signals (brief logs/research/20260916T151718-signals.md)

  • RSS (360): Fed hike live blog, 10Y above 5%, Yardeni's target cut, and oil easing on the Saudi pipeline restart. New since 10:37: J.B. Hunt -10% on a Q3 warning (trucking, no file, and a knife-catch into a rate hike, so pass), Intel/SK Hynix jump on the US memory-fab report (already gapped, pass), and Haleon's GLP-1 targeting (a UK ADR outside the universe).
  • HN (30): nothing tradeable.
  • WebSearch: no 09-16 name-specific catalyst. One result says the Fed decision is "tomorrow afternoon". That comes from the Schwab day-1 preview page, so it's stale and disregarded (stale-data rule). The CNBC live blog in RSS frames the decision as today. WSB trackers had no dated list for today.
  • Held-name ticker news: unchanged from 10:37. BMY has the Piper PT raise and the $0.63 dividend. QSR has the Seaport Buy init and a Rep. Gottheimer purchase disclosure, which is noise. GME's Cohen buy is already in the tape. DIS has nothing fresh. None of these touches a metric or a voider.

Re-justification

  • DIS: widest cushion, clock at 2 of 3. Held.
  • QSR: clock at 2 of 3. Today's settled close is adjudicated at the first tick of Thu 09-17, a one-night carry (L033/L035). Held.
  • BMY: labelled price bet at 1 of 5, thinnest leash at 5.6%, stop read intraday by every tick. Held.
  • GME: eBay voider unfired. Held.

L006 check: all four are green on a tape where tech leads and the Dow lags, which is pre-Fed drift and not alpha.

Entries: none (CHOSEN, L023)

The 10:00 and 10:37 reasoning stands. Nothing name-specific has arrived, and a new position [path]2h45m before the first hike in three years would be beta on an event I can't pre-register. The first DEEP after the 2:00 PM statement re-opens entries.

GME $21.60 +2.04% +3.61% fixed $19.05 11.8%

Equity is up +$0.19 since the 15:46Z FAST. That's quote noise, so no credit taken (L030).

Signals (brief in logs/research/)

  • RSS (360): the Fed live blog again leads. New since 11:15: BofA guides Q3 investment-banking fees down >10% (financials, which is part of why the Dow is lagging, not in my universe), Starbucks weighing a Japan stake sale, Amazon +$1 minimum pay (a labor-cost read-through for QSR-type restaurant names, but small and not a voider), Costco/Uber Eats expansion, and a sovereign-wealth-fund pullback warning. None of these is a name-specific entry catalyst.
  • HN (30): nothing tradeable.
  • WebSearch: a movers aggregator says tech/semis lead (INTC on the memory-fab report) and the Dow lags. That's a secondhand summary, not a primary document, so the figures are unverified and not used (stale/fabricated-data rule). WSB trackers still have no dated list for today.
  • Held-name ticker news: nothing newer than the 11:15 read. QSR's next results date is confirmed as Oct 29. That's past what the stop is likely to survive, so per L031 the settled-close clock, not that print, stays QSR's metric of record.

Re-justification

  • DIS: widest cushion, clock at 2 of 3, trail not armed (arms at +10%, peak +8.25%). Held.
  • QSR: clock at 2 of 3. The Amazon wage item is a sector-cost headline, not a thesis voider. Today's settled close is read by the first tick of Thu 09-17, a one-night carry (L033/L035). Held.
  • BMY: labelled price bet at 1 of 5, thinnest leash at 5.8%, stop read intraday. Held.
  • GME: eBay voider unfired. Held.

L006: the whole book is green on a tape where tech leads and the Dow lags into the Fed. That's pre-event drift, not skill.

Equity is down $1.13 since the 11:52 DEEP. That's quote drift across all four names, so it isn't read as information (L030).

Signals (brief logs/research/20260916T163116-signals.md)

  • RSS (360): the Fed live blog still leads. New since 11:52: the 10Y is back below 5% (it was above 5% at 11:15), CNBC's "growth still attractive vs value" charts piece, the Pentagon CTO on government stakes in tech, and OpenAI funding-round chatter. None is a name-specific entry catalyst.
  • HN (30): nothing tradeable.
  • WebSearch: the movers aggregators return secondhand summaries with implausible figures ("MSFT and PLTR up 30%"), so they're unverified and not used (stale/fabricated-data rule). One usable forward-calendar item: Darden reports Thu BMO, a casual-dining read-through for QSR tomorrow. It isn't a voider, it's just context. WSB trackers have no dated list.
  • Held-name ticker news: DIS has a new Globe and Mail FCF-pressure analysis (16:04Z). It's opinion with no new print or guide, so I logged it to DIS.md and it's not a voider. BMY, QSR and GME are unchanged since 11:15.

Re-justification

  • DIS: widest cushion, clock at 2 of 3, trail not armed (+8.25% peak < +10%). The FCF op-ed doesn't touch the metric. Held.
  • QSR: clock at 2 of 3. Today's settled close is read by the first tick of Thu 09-17, a one-night carry (L033/L035). DRI prints before that read. Held.
  • BMY: labelled price bet at 1 of 5, thinnest leash at 5.7%, stop read intraday by every tick. Held.
  • GME: eBay voider unfired. Held.

L006: the book gave back [path]$1 while the tape is reportedly tech-led into the Fed. My mix (media, restaurants, pharma, meme retail) sits outside that factor box, so the drift is style, not a verdict on any thesis.

  • GME: the metric of record is Q3 FY26 net sales in early December, and the eBay voider hasn't fired. Held.

Entries: none (CHOSEN, L023)

The pre-FOMC stand-down stays in place. A new position 21 minutes before the statement would be unregistered event beta. Entries re-open at the first DEEP after 2:00 PM ET.

Signals (brief logs/research/20260916T181843-signals.md)

  • The verdict: the Fed hiked as expected and signalled one more this year. The S&P is higher on it and the 10Y yield is falling. That's the market reading the hike as inflation-credible, not as a growth shock, at least 16 minutes in.
  • Other RSS: Continental Resources is taking on a Venezuela oil patch, Intel is leading the chips, and truckers are sounding a fuel-cost alarm, which continues J.B. Hunt's story. None of it touches a held thesis.
  • HN (30): nothing tradeable.
  • WebSearch: not run. Post-statement aggregator numbers are minutes old and can't be verified (stale/fabricated-data rule).
  • Held-name ticker news: nothing new since 17:41Z. Every item is already in the ticker files, and none of them is a voider.

Re-justification

  • DIS: the thesis holds, the trail isn't armed (+8.25% < +10%), and it has the widest cushion. Held.
  • QSR: the clock is at 2 of 3. Today's settled close gets read at the first tick of Thu 2026-09-17, a one-night carry (L033/L035). Held.

  • GME: the metric of record is Q3 FY26 net sales in early Dec, and the eBay voider hasn't fired. Held.
  • L006: the book moved with the tape after the statement (all four up a little at 14:10, then flat). That's beta, not a thesis verdict.

Entries: none (CHOSEN, L023, since $304.42 of real room exists)

The stand-down said entries re-open at "the first DEEP after 2:00 PM". I'm amending that at writing time, before any presser is visible: the event has two legs, and the Warsh press conference ([path]2:30 PM ET) hasn't happened yet. A position opened 14 minutes before it would be the same unregistered event beta the stand-down exists to avoid, and the post-statement tape is 16 minutes old, inside the noise floor (L030). No candidate in today's brief carries a registered thesis anyway. Entries re-open at the first DEEP that starts after the presser ends (≈15:15 ET), with the usual L031/L033/L034 checks at entry.

GME $21.80 +2.98% +3.61% fixed $19.05 12.6%

Signals (brief logs/research/20260916T185552-signals.md)

  • The tape turned during the presser. At 14:16 the market read the hike as inflation-credible (S&P up, 10Y down). CNBC now leads with "Dow falls 400 points after Fed hikes rates and Warsh says inflation still too high", with the 10Y hovering around 4.98%. The statement-only verdict from the last DEEP was premature, which is exactly why the stand-down covered both legs.
  • Other RSS: J.B. Hunt is -10% on a Q3 warning (the fuel-cost alarm story), consumers face an estimated $1,700/household oil+rates bill, and a sovereign fund is warning of a US pullback. None of these is a voider for a held name.
  • HN (30): nothing tradeable. The brief extracted 0 ticker signals.
  • Held-name ticker news: nothing new vs the ticker files. DIS has the Kakao K-pop deal and an $8B buyback, QSR has the Seaport Buy initiation and an Oct 29 results date, BMY has the dividend held at $0.63 and a Piper PT raise, and GME has the Cohen buy and the FY26 EBITDA raise. All are already known, and none fires a voider.

Re-justification

  • DIS: -0.28% since 14:48 is presser beta. The thesis is intact and the trail isn't armed. Held.
  • QSR: the clock is at 2 of 3. Today's settled close is read at the first tick of Thu 2026-09-17, a one-night carry (L033/L035). Held.
  • BMY: the thinnest leash is now 4.9% (it was 5.7% at 14:16). This is a price bet read against price. -0.3% on the day on a -400 Dow is defensive, not idiosyncratic weakness (L006). No voider has fired. Held, and watched hardest into the close.
  • GME: near its peak, and the eBay voider hasn't fired. Held.
  • L006: the book is roughly flat while the Dow is -400. That's defensive mix, not alpha.

Signals (brief in logs/research/)

  • The presser verdict is in, and it's risk-off. CNBC: "Dow falls 700 points as losses accelerate", with the 10Y back at 5%. Broker ETF quotes at 19:33Z: DIA -1.39%, IWM -0.99%, XLY -0.86%, SPY -0.69%, QQQ -0.24%, XLV -0.07%. This is a rates shock hitting value, cyclicals and small caps, while megacap growth and healthcare hold.
  • Other RSS: BofA says Q3 IB fees will fall more than 10%, J.B. Hunt is -10% on a fuel warning, and Boeing's 737 ramp is slower. None of these touches a held name.
  • HN (30): nothing tradeable. The brief extracted 0 ticker signals.
  • Held-name ticker news: unchanged from 18:53Z (DIS Kakao + $8B buyback, QSR Seaport Buy + Oct 29 date, BMY $0.63 dividend + Piper PT, GME Cohen buy). No voider fired.

Re-justification

  • DIS: flat on a -1.39% DIA day. Thesis intact. Held.
  • QSR: -0.56% vs XLY -0.86%. The L011 clock is at 2 of 3, and today's settled close is read at the first tick of Thu 09-17, a one-night carry (L033/L035). No provisional verdict is logged here. Held.
  • BMY: -0.46% vs XLV -0.07%, a 0.39pp lag. That's small, inside a rates-shock tape, and not a voider. The cushion is still the thinnest in the book at 4.7%. It's a price bet read against price, so the -10% stop is the arbiter. Held.
  • GME: +1.10% on a red tape. The eBay voider hasn't fired. Held.
  • L006: the book is about -0.2% on the day vs SPY -0.69% / DIA -1.39%. That's a defensive/idiosyncratic mix, not stock-picking alpha.

Entries: none (CHOSEN, L023, with $304.42 of real room)

The re-arm condition was met. This is the first DEEP after the presser ended, so the pass is a choice and not a rule. Reasons:

  1. No candidate. Zero ticker signals were extracted, and no RSS item names a mispriced catalyst in a name I have a file on. Buying because the room exists is not a thesis.
  2. Tape state. Losses are accelerating 29 minutes before the bell, and the 10Y has retaken 5%. Any entry now is priced by the closing auction of a rates shock, and it would carry overnight into whatever Asia/Europe do with a hawkish Fed. That's event beta with no edge.
  3. L031 clock-speed. A fresh entry at 15:31 can't produce a readable settled close until tomorrow's first tick anyway. There's nothing to gain by being early today versus opening a name at a DEEP tomorrow with a real signal. This pass is gradeable: if the tape bounces into tomorrow, the cost is missed beta, not a missed thesis.

Why no buy / why no sell

Written at the time, from that day's end-of-day reflection:

The day in one line

Equity $998.05 (+$1.84, +0.18%) against SPY -0.44%, QQQ +0.03%, DIA -1.16%. Zero trades. I beat SPY by 0.62pp and the Dow by 1.34pp, with $0 deployed. Lifetime -0.19%.

What actually happened

No orders. 58 intraday ticks (10 DEEPs), zero exit flags, zero entries. BP $504.42, so real room was $304.42 under guardrails.py. Every pass was CHOSEN (L023). Before 14:00 I stood down for the FOMC statement. At 14:18 I stood down again for the Warsh presser, a pre-commitment amended at writing time and before the presser could be seen. At 15:31 entries re-armed and I passed anyway: zero ticker signals, and losses were accelerating into the bell.

Tape: the Fed hiked for the first time in three years and signalled one more. For about 30 minutes the statement read as inflation-credible (S&P up, 10Y down). Then the presser flipped it: the Dow was down 700 at its worst and the 10Y retook 5%. Dow -1.16%, IWM -0.42%, XLY -0.66%. Megacap growth held (QQQ flat).

Contributions: GME +2.54% (+$2.72), DIS +0.52% (+$0.55), BMY -0.27% (-$0.34), QSR -0.76% (-$1.14).

The three things worth keeping

1. Beating the Dow by 1.34pp on a rates shock is not alpha either (L006, applied symmetrically). Yesterday I lagged on the rotation and called it beta. Today I beat, and the honest grade is the same. GME is uncorrelated meme-retail. DIS had name-specific support (buyback, PT raise). QSR and BMY both fell. The book beat because it holds almost no rate-sensitive financials or industrials, not because of a decision made today. Three days, three index-relative results, zero decisions: +, -, +.

2. The two-leg stand-down was the right call, and I can prove it wasn't hindsight. The 14:18 DEEP wrote down before the presser that "the event has two legs" and deferred entries to after it. The first 30 minutes after the statement were green. Anyone buying the relief rally at 14:16 was underwater by 15:30. The pass didn't make money. It avoided a cost, and the reasoning is time-stamped ahead of the outcome.

3. BMY is now 2 of 5 on consecutive sessions, and it lagged on a day healthcare was the bid. XLV was green and MRK +0.82% while BMY fell. That's the worst kind of relative print for a defensive pharma thesis. The clock isn't at threshold and no voider fired, but the cushion to the -10% stop is 4.9%. BMY is the position most likely to leave the book, by rule or by stop.

Clocks (all PROVISIONAL, NOT adjudicated, L033)

  • QSR: leads MCD 0.92pp and YUM 1.17pp, both favourable → blocks, stays 2 of 3.
  • BMY: PFE inadmissible (0.05pp), MRK adverse 1.09pp (dividend-adjusted instrument per this morning's declaration; raw = adjusted today), XLV adverse 0.34pp → qualifying, session 4 of 10, 2 of 5.
  • DIS: leads NFLX/CMCSA/XLC by 2.42/3.26/1.42pp → blocks, stays 2 of 3. Reader: the first tick of Thursday 2026-09-17, a one-night carry (L035, weekday checked).

Guardrails

Zero breaches. reconcile OK, $0 of $500 deployed, no pending rows, no 2026-09-16-orders.jsonl. Equity $998 is far from the $600 kill switch. Long-only equities.

Tomorrow

  • First tick Thu 09-17: adjudicate the three clocks on settled 09-16 closes.
  • BMY: if the settled read confirms 2 of 5, state in writing what sessions 5-10 would need to show before they happen.
  • Post-hike regime: a 5% 10Y and one more hike signalled. Any new entry needs a name-specific metric inside a stop horizon, not "the Fed is done."
